It’s fair to say that the most exciting time of the year around the Sovereign Grace offices is when a new Pastors College class rolls in and the workplace is transformed from the quiet of familiar routine to the exuberance of warm introductions, new relationships, and long-anticipated beginnings. This year is no exception.
Twelve students and their wives made their way to Louisville just a few weeks ago, bringing with them 25 children—two of whom were born this summer, on the same day, in the same hospital. Four of the students arrived from outside the U.S.—3 from Jamaica and one from Bolivia. All of them bring stories of God’s providential working in their lives which has delivered them to the Pastors College. As we have heard these stories, our anticipation for the coming year has only intensified.
The faces in the picture represent many things we can thank God for. These are men whose passion for Christ and his church has compelled them to sacrifice short-term convenience for long-term training. This photo also represents their wives, women willing to leave the comforts and familiarity of home to support their husbands as they pursue God’s call on their lives. With them are children who left behind friends and family. Take a closer look and you’ll see more: pastors who have invested countless hours disciplined young men and churches who are incubators for rising leaders. Behind all of this is an even greater reality: a sovereign Lord whose committed to building his church and bringing his gospel to all nations.
Please pray for this class as they labor to prepare for future service for the cause of Christ. Pray the Lord would meet them in powerful ways as they watch over their souls, care for their families, and pursue their studies. Pray that, in them and through them, God would “do far more abundantly than all we ask or think” (Eph. 3:20, ESV), for the glory of God, the proclamation of the gospel, the strengthening of Christ’s church, and the joy of the nations.
To all who support these students, the Pastors College, and Sovereign Grace (many of you for years), thank you for your generous and faithful participation in the great work of training leaders for the ministry of the glorious gospel.
For anyone interested in attending the Pastors College or simply wanting to learn more about our program, we are hosting an informational meeting on Oct. 26 from 3-4:30 pm at our annual Pastors Conference.
