Ethlyn has been the victim of traumatic abuse and as a result has tragically lost her home, her health and her family. Ethlyn recently became a member of Christ Church of South Philly, a recent church plant from Sovereign Grace Church in Marlton, NJ. Her story is one that points to God’s redeeming love and His intimate care displayed, by His grace, through the church.
“When I came to Christ Church I couldn’t believe how the pastor, Pastor Jeff, and the members of the church embraced me. It was something new to me because one, I had trust issues and two, I had never felt love like this before in my life. Although I’m in the shelter, I have so many people who really care for me. I don’t feel alone, scared and fearful anymore because I feel the presence and power of God all around me. I know people. I finally know people. And I love these people here. Although I’m homeless, I’ve often said to myself, ‘I’m not homeless, I’m homeMORE than anyone’ because I have so many homes to go to where I can sit and laugh and talk and just be me.”
Since this interview was first filmed, members of Christ Church of South Philly have taken Ethlyn in to live with them. She is no longer homeless.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction…” 1 Corinthians 1:3&4
